Defeat of City Hall Bond and Telephone Franchise
A special election defeated the 22 000 city hall bond by 288 against to 286 for, falling short of the three fifths needed. The Nebraska Telephone Company franchise was rejected 430 to 240. Ward results show mixed support. bonds may be re submitted and voters who opposed may switch to support.

Doings at the North Platte City Council Chamber
The council meeting on Tuesday evening saw lively debate and sharp exchanges. Alderman He Ane offered 20000 for an exclusive telephone franchise, rejected as too costly. Mayor Patterson proposed 10000 with flexible payments. J F Clabaugh pledged 2000 for an exclusive clothing and furnishing goods franchise at a 20 percent lower price, but the council cannot grant it. Attorney Shuman and Mayor Patterson clashed over the city limits ordinance, which Patterson vetoed and the council overrode.

Ten Chamber of Commerce Committees Meet on Local Issues
Last evening the ten standing chambers discussed questions including the state agricultural school good roads new depot and crowd management for the Wild West show. A proposal to bring an aviator for a flight on August 18 was rejected due to a conflict with the good roads convention and a $700 cost deemed unrealizable by attendance.

July Rainfall and Winds Reported for the Month
July closed with 3.81 inches of rain, six tenths above the monthly average. In 1910 July rainfall was only half an inch. Twelve rainy days were recorded, with the heaviest storm at eight tenths on the 22nd. The mean temperature was 73 degrees, two below normal. Total wind movement reached 5378 miles, with a top velocity of 33 mph.

The North Platte Public Library Board awarded the new library building bid to Howard McMichwal for 8676.60, with slight bid excess over Winters Short of Atwood Kan. Heating and plumbing contract went to Platte Plumbing Heating Co for 851.50 and wiring to North Platte Electric Lighting Heating Co for 86.20. The old board adjourned then new board elected President John Bratt Vice President N McCabe and Secretary Treasurer Miss Annie C Kramph.
