U P Awards Contract for Sherman Hill Improvements
Kilpatrick, Collins & Co received the contract for the Sherman Hill improvements with a likely payment around 2.5 million dollars. The Laramie to Buford track will be largely abandoned and the Dale Creek bridge will be used only until the new route is finished. A three quarters of a mile tunnel is included and completion is expected in two years. Authorities met with the contractors in Cheyenne and Omaha as work began. Separately the Supreme Court cleared Rev. Mackey Herring and Ford Ford? Hartford of contempt in the Dodds case amid Omaha controversy about Judge Scott.

City Council Meeting Actions Reported
City Council met at the court judge's office on Tuesday evening. The fire department chief was instructed to prepare a full equipment list. Certificates of service were issued for retiring firefighters Alex, Russel, Chas Brown, and IL. PB. Dickinson. The March treasurer's report showed 2714.05 in all funds with warrants totaling 21284, and all but Water Works warrant 2082.52 called in. A 700 judgment fund and 230.91 water fund warrant were issued to cover Waterworks Company's judgment. A 35 percent dividend on floating claims from 1897 and earlier was declared, bringing total paid to 85 percent. The city attorney drafted a form warrant for the dividend. Fees and numerous claims were approved. Next council meeting is Tuesday evening May island.

Lutheran concert at Lloyd's Opera House charms large audience
A Luther an church sponsored concert at Lloyds Opera House Tuesday evening drew a large crowd. The program featured a chorus of young voices, Mozarts Gloria, Haydens All Hail, cornet solos by W H Wolfe, and vocal solos by J H Heshay Rev Hl A Wolfe and W H Wolfe. Miss Bratts instrumental solo and Miss Heywood's two solos received praise. Mrs Chas Kitzmiller recited The Witch of Wenham with encores and a charming character sketch. Refreshments were provided by the ladies aid society after the program.

The Saturday teachers meeting did not need new quarters due to ample attendance. The next meeting is set for May 12. After services were well attended and the exercises reflect credit on those who spent much time training them.

Madison Votes Bonds for New High School Building
Madison follows North Platte in voting 253 to 28 to fund a new high school on the current site costing 12 250 dollars. The present building is deemed unsafe and will be replaced.
