Death of Pioneer William Spoor Remains Scribbled in Knox
Pioneer William Spoor, a long time Starxe county resident born in 1838 in Union County Ohio, died Sunday afternoon at his Knox home after a weeklong illness. He served in the Civil War with the G A R and leaves twelve of seventeen children alive. Funeral services were held at his home and Round Lake church with interment in Round Lake cemetery.

The rogue known as C P Hull, who visited the Culver Exchange Bank and deposited two bad checks for 35000 at Chicago and 8540 at a Danville bank, was pursued by Banker Shilling and exposed. He then wandered with a farmer and his daughter toward Rochester to marry the girl, bragging of riches and schemes to buy farms near Keowanna. Returning to Delong in a frenzy, Hull sought new targets at Jack Scott’s near Monterey and claimed kinship to Ja cob Keller of North Judson while attempting to fleece Scott and others. He tried to buy fencing at Bass Lake and fled when his deception unraveled, as Scott recovered $2 of a $10 loss. Local residents report other social visits and acquisitions including a Cadillac by L P Hiatt and son and a restaurant purchase by Willard McFarland of North Manchester.
