Millvale braces for a tight mayoral contest between Regis J. McCarthy seeking a 28th term and Carl Seidl, the longtime Republican councilman. Voters face a clash of personalities and a debate over change versus continuity as both leaders play down mudslinging and emphasize service to the town.
Dick Walters, a 39 year old Pitt campus police officer from Ben Avon, will be one of about 50 law enforcers nationwide to attend the FBI National Academy at Quantico for 11 weeks. He was selected by his police chief, trained by FBI instructors, and will join Supt Raymond Schaefer in the Pittsburgh region group. The program, funded by the federal government, offers coursework in behavior science, law, management, and police training, with accreditation from the University of Virginia. Walters expects to complete the program and return with expanded curriculum development for Pitt and Allegheny County agencies.
George Brady Statton, 31, of Moon Township, chosen manager as McCandless-FP group forms the Mount Park Ambulance Authority.
