A biographical sketch of Amiot born 1730 in Vercheres parish, a prominent Lower Canada farmer and MP for Surrey, who championed democratic principles. It recounts his opposition to Lord Dalhousie, suspension from militia, exile, capture, imprisonment in Montreal jail, illness, and eventual death in January 1839 after release in 1838.
A historical sketch recounts the 1763 Paris treaty surrendering Canada to Great Britain, the October proclamation creating four colonies, and the imposition of English law.
