Neligh Neb Sept 6 Special to The News Geo Harriman a Neligh high school football player broke his right leg below the knee during the first practice under Dr Frank Bartley. The fracture was reduced on the spot and the patient is doing as well as could be expected.
The postal service moves toward better compensation for rural and small-route carriers. Examples include Lake Charles Louisiana where pay rose from 50 to 2000 dollars a year for the same duties, West Bridgeton New Jersey where pay went from one cent to 100 dollars, and Freedom New Hampshire where the job rose to 150 dollars. Hazel W third. running race Baby Barnes first Daisy B second Daisy third. best time 0:54. Honest Abe completed a guideless mile in 2:30 and will race again today.
Hastings Neb Sept 1 The Episcopal convocation voted unanimously to meet next year in Kearney where the convocation will be entertained at the new $50 000 military academy building to be completed by that time.
In Hastings Nebraska on September The preliminary hearing for Barney Pierson accused of killing W R McCulla was held before Justice Jones. Pierson was released on a ten thousand dollar bond.
In Traverse City a Seout Pere Marquette train known as the flyer collided with passenger train No 10 at Wallin. The flyer reportedly ran ahead of time as No 10 backed into the siding. Three tramps are fatally injured. Conductor Wilson suffered a broken leg and arm, with four others hurt. Both engines were badly damaged.
Secretary of War William H. Taft addressed a large crowd at Alameda hall in Bath Maine and received an enthusiastic greeting. It marked his only appearance in the Maine campaign, introduced by Harold F. Sewall who called him the probable successor of President Roosevelt.
