Mrs. Frank Dobney widow of a local prominent businessman died after a three year invalid spell following injuries from a fall on a broken sidewalk in darkness. Her funeral at the Methodist church was led by C. BE Connell and Rev Light. She leaves a husband two daughters and four sons and was a member of the Methodist church and Stuart lodge No. 2 Degree of Honor.
Fort Omaha reports the Baldwin airship No 1 made its first Merit flight yesterday afternoon reaching nearly fourteen minutes. Lieutenants Lahm and Puller navigated the vessel with a new rudder design and praised its responsiveness. Daily flights planned for the next week or two with aeronautics classes taught at the fort.
The Zeppelin II successfully completes its initial test at Friedrichshafen on May 8. The airship, designed for government use, will soon be handed over to authorities and later undergo endurance trials under military control aimed at reaching Berlin. A delegation from the Reichstag will visit Friedrichshafen on June 6 to inspect Count Zeppelin's plant and observe short flights.
In Lincoln Nebraska on May 27 thieves took a switch engine and coupled it to two cars of merchandise in the Burlington yards. They moved the cars three miles toward the fair grounds and tried to break one open but fled when frightened.
In Madison Nebraska on May 27 a jury awarded Fritzof Spoblom $48 plus costs after finding Burr Taft liable for labor performed. The plaintiff had sought $250 and was out several hours.
A case by Aevlice Thomas J. Malone to recover for a river injury after a tree fall was dismissed without prejudice following a jury trial. Separately Theodore Wolf opitner Carl Vollbreadt and others pursued payment from sureties on a threshing machine note, yielding a $520 verdict plus costs. A district suit by Anna Mary Linstadt and Otto F Anstadt against Minna Huberta challenges a quit claim deed description for an undivided one fifth in parts of sections 22 and 33, township 32, range 2 west, with life estate considerations and dower provisions.
Special report from Niobrara Nebraska notes a freight derailment between here and Verdiere caused by a broken rail. Four to six inches of rain fell in thirteen hours. Train service between Norfolk and Dallas resumed that night.

Madison Nebraska May 27 Charles Fraser captain of Company F Madison received notice from Adjutant General John Hartigan that he has been elected major of the Third battalion Nebraska.
Mrs. D. R. Buckingham filed suit for divorce from her husband in the first week of filing. She alleges non support and seeks custody of the couple's twin boys.
Constantinople May 27 The military authorities weigh removing former sultan Abdul Hamids residence from Saloniki to a Mediterranean island likely Rhodes. Saloniki residents fear unrest sparked by his presence. General Schefket inspector general has traveled to Saloniki to handle the issue.
George W. Thompson fired twice at a moving silhouette late at night, killing his wife whom he mistook for a burglar. He says he woke to a light he believed signaled a break-in and shot in self defense.
Sioux City May 27. Frank R F R Wilson the managing editor buys the Sioux City Daily News from Mel Uhl of Omaha and T W Ashbaugh and N W Reay of St Paul. The paper began December 12 1906 and is a local asset of long standing.
Captain Thomas Baldwin's dirigible at the West Hudson Aero club carnival in North Arlington New Jersey struck a tree after a spectator grabbed a guide rope. The collision damaged the propeller and halted further flight. Baldwin was unharmed. The craft had sailed 150 yards in three passes before the incident.
In Gregory South Dakota contest before the land office Dr W Astis challenges Dr George Johnson home stead on non residence grounds. The case, ongoing since Thursday, features multiple witnesses with attorneys Patterson Harvey and George B Poster. The new Gregory land office building near completion spans two stories with basement and cement blocks.
Word from Colone in Tripp county reports railroad contractors assessing ground for an extension from Dallas to begin within thirty days. Treddway, who graded the Bonesteel extension, is on site with men. Automobile service runs daily between Gregory and Witten via Dallas Colone Lamro and Collins. Graduation exercises at Gregory high school this week. The $15,000 schoolhouse bond issue passed without dissent and construction will start immediately.
Herrick reports hardware stock disposed to W J Latble of Freeport who will operate the business from now. A heavy rain Monday morning brings good prospects for small grain. The Farmers State Bank installs a new fireproof vault with modern conveniences.
James Small of Maine, aboard the Russian bark Lochee, testified in Frederikstad that his earlier confession to Captain Stillston was a fabrication. He claimed he invented details after reading Gunness headlines to dodge duties, saying he was a Portland, Maine soldier at the time. The judge deemed him possibly insane and ordered him remanded to the United States rather than prosecution. Captain Stillston said Small had named two men as Gunness accomplices and claimed a $500 share.
Paris reports Premier Clemenceau has accepted Carnegie Foundation funding for a French hero fund. The $1,000,000 in United States steel 5 percent bonds will finance a commission of eminent Frenchmen to award civic heroes under the same rules as U S hero funds.
The senate spent over seven hours discussing sugar tariffs. Senator McEnery urged stiff protection citing revenue needs and independence. Senators Burrows and Smoot, both on the finance committee, supported the committee's sugar schedule.
Reports from Mississippi and Arkansas describe widespread flood damage after heavy rains and a tornado in northern Mississippi. The Arkansas River has overflowed, railways are disabled, communication lines down, and many towns flooded with residents forced to take to rooftops. No deaths reported yet.
Atlanta May 27. The post office department will today move to start a train carrying only mail on the Georgia railroad. The striking firemen have expressed willingness to operate such a mail train, and it was reliably reported this morning that service would begin at once on the tied up line.
Congress man William Lorimer of Illinois was elected United States senator by the joint session on the ninety fifth ballot. A coalition of Democratic assemblymen and anti Hopkins Republicans enabled the vote count to 103. The deadlock, ongoing since January 20, ended as Hopkins supporters failed to block Lorimer's election.
London dispatch reports Armenians and Young Turks anxious as Adana leaders assign relief fund duties to Beddi a Kurd accused of leading the Bazaar massacre. Cor respondent notes locals seek official protection from Constantinople amid mass anger, while some army and chamber factions oppose the moves.
Sioux City report says Frank Gotch defeated Oscar Wassem and Kubaik in a series of three falls at the opera house. Gotch earned two wins against Wassem and one against Kubaik within forty minutes of action.
Magistrate Thomas Stanton resigns due to ill health and takes a daily street sweeper job earning 1.50. He was elected two years ago after finishing an unexpired term. Doctors ordered rest and fresh air. Stanton reports feeling better and on the road to recovery.

Honolulu May 27 A Japanese laborer was killed during a fight among strikers at the Hwa plantation marking the first bloodshed since the sugar workers struck. Fifteen hundred strike breakers are at work, with 400 hired yesterday. At Ewa 8 000 tons and at Walla Noston 10 000 tons remain to be milled. Julia Ward Howe, surrounded by family, marks her 101st birthday at Beacon Street home but forgoes public observance due to age.
Jared C. Weed longtime cashier at the county treasurer's office is arrested on grand larceny charges. Treasurer Fix accuses another employee, citing confessions and partial restoration of funds totaling about 36 150 since 1900 with no immunity promised.

North director of the census tendered his resignation and E Dana Durand deputy commissioner of corporations was nominated to succeed him The resignation follows a dispute with Secretary Nagel who insisted the director be subordinate to the cabinet officer President Taft was asked to decide and the matter ends with Durand slated to take over amid expectations of improved harmony with Nagel
The Pennsylvania Sugar Refining Co sues American Sugar Refining Co for 10 million dollars in triplicate under the Sherman act. The Philadelphia plant was closed after a controlling stake was secured and directors placed by the defendant. Trial before Judge Holts began with ex governor Black for plaintiffs and Parsons for the defendant. The first witness testified.
Des Moines residents report letters with money arriving at Panora and other towns. No signature, one bears Portland, Oregon postmark. Five people acknowledge receiving $1,125 in total with notes reading Your Friend. Mrs. Viola Kapegitt, widow, got $225.

Orators report denial of public plaza access in three towns by unionist mayors, and appeals have been made to the attorney general and governor over the right of assembly.
