In Philadelphia on May 24 the Presbyterian general assembly opened the debate on revising the confession of faith. A large crowd filled Calvary church as commissioners debated with eloquence and no acrimony. About 250 commissioners pledged to dismissal but were open to conviction and heard remarks from Rev. Dr. Dickey, Rev. Dr. McKibben, and others on both sides.

President McKinley spent a busy day in San Francisco visiting the Forty fifth and Forty sixth volunteer regiments just returned from the Philippines to be mustered out. He spoke to soldiers at the reviewing stand and visited the general hospital cheering sick veterans. He then attended receptions hosted by local societies and received a gold paper weight valued at 350. He also turned the first shovelful of sod for a Dewey memorial at Union Square.

Deaf Boy Struck by Train in Nebraska City
A 7 year old son of Milton Kriefels living at Paul seven miles south of Nebraska City was struck by a Missouri Pacific train yesterday and will probably die. The boy, who is deaf and dumb, did not hear the warning whistle.
