A fire broke out at a Plainview church during a 66 mile gale. The blaze, attributed to a hell hound incident, prompted firefighting crews to respond as authorities investigate motive and damages.
A fire destroyed the new Methodist church and two houses, valued at about 2000 and partly insured. Three water streams and wet blankets saved the town from further damage as burning shingles sparked about forty other fires. Local firemen and a few nearby departments contained the blaze amid suspicions it followed the town’s dry election dispute.
Residents fled and paramedics tended fainting individuals as extreme heat sparked about 40 small fires. A church was broken into and drenched with gasoline amid the dangerous conditions.
A fire fiend ignited the Methodist church in Plainview Nebraska in the early hours, burning the church and parsonage, destroying a nearby home and a shed, and sparking forty smaller fires. Firefighters and residents battled for four and a half hours in a sixty mile per hour NW gale. The new church, valued at about 15 000 dollars with 8 000 dollars insurance, and the parsonage, worth around 2 000 dollars, were lost. one nearby home was gutted.
Madison Neb May 6 Special to The News Deputy Game Warden J B Donovan returns from Crystal Lake resort near Dakota City where he planned to enforce state game laws. He reports a gun club of seventy five members formed and one member hired at 75 dollars monthly as special game warden for the locality to ensure enforcement.
Dr. T. E. Graham resigns as assistant physician at State Hospital for the Insane No. 2 in St. Joseph citing gross outrages by attendants with Superintendent Kuhn’s knowledge. He offers to provide names and dates if the board requests. The facility houses nearly 2,000 patients, making it Missouri’s largest asylum.
The battleship Mississippi raised anchors and passed through South pass at 9 a m with an experienced river pilot aboard. The journey through the narrows was completed without incident and the vessel is expected at the naval wharf near 1 pm.
An American whaling ship the Carrie D. Knowles long thought lost may be found in a Venezuelan prison. An escaped Venezuelan prisoner named Payne told Kingstown authorities the ship was seized at a Venezuelan port five years ago and the captain Collin Stephenson and crew were jailed there. The story prompted a formal inquiry. the Carrie D. Knowles sailed January 29, 1904 from Provincetown with Captain Stephenson and first mate H. A. Martin and about a dozen crew, then disappeared in a West Indian storm.

Lake Erie has exhibited unusual behavior since midnight with water levels rising four to five feet between 2 and 4 am and then rapidly draining from the harbor. Boats along the Blackwell canal and nearby docks were violently knocked against their moorings as the water surged and receded, according to old mariners in Buffalo, New York.
Fred D. Warren business manager of the Appeal to Reason socialist publication was found guilty by a federal court jury in Fort Scott Kansas for sending scurrilous matter through the mails. An appeal will be taken.

Berlin dispatch reports Chancellor Von Buelow intends to resign before the Whitsun recess after the Reichstag finance committee backed taxing accrued real estate values for death duties and opposed aspects of the government tax plan. The emperor returns May 28 and an audience for formal resignation is expected.

Italian navy Lieutenant Caldera, pupil of Wilbur Wright, fainted during a Wright plane turn at Ayrsnip Rome and fell about forty five feet. He was found unconscious, revived, and taken to a military hospital. His uncles from Verona witnessed the flight, and the machine was badly damaged.
In Washington on May 6 Senator Bailey introduced a bill to apply the commodities clause to any corporation owning subsidiaries and withdrew it after deciding to read the Supreme Court opinion. Representative Wanger then introduced a House bill prohibiting railroads from transporting commodities for any affiliated or creditor corporations.
In Washington on May 6 Representative Murphy of Missouri announced he would present formal impeachment charges against Federal Judges McPherson of Iowa and Philips of Missouri after concluding a lengthy House statement. Judge Philips declined to speak and Judge McPherson also declined to comment.
Judge McPherson in Kansas City declares that Circuit Attorney Jones has infringed the federal court injunctive order by challenging Missouri railroads three cent fare. He says AG Majors actions not in contempt and notes political absence of Judge McPherson as arguments begin on a temporary restraining order against state officials.
El Paso reports say seven killed at the Sanborn ranch fight near Vera Cruz Mexico. Harold Sanborn of Chicago son of a plantation president is jailed on a murder charge tied to a nineteen year old girl said to have stabbed ranch partner Vicente Espinosa. The girl was killed amid the general clash.
Washington May 6 The tariff bill reading resumes after delays since April 20 with senators debating amendments on lead ore and lead products used in paint. Senator Bristow presses 2 1/2 cent rate, arguing it raises farmer paint costs, while Senator Crawford says votes should favor downward revisions unless strong reasons occur.
Hot Springs Virginia May 6 Mrs John D Rockefeller who has suffered pneumonia at the Homestead hotel is out of danger and continues to improve.
In Jefferson City on May 6 the senate committee on private corporations reported adversely a bill to bar foreign corporations from holding stock in domestic concerns, signaling the measure's defeat. The same committee also reported adversely a bill to prevent opera house managers from denying bookings to reputable theatrical companies.

The British battleship Triumph and British consul at Alexandretta relieved Saadia after Armenian massacres. They visited Keldaron and Kessab finding towns in charnel condition. Over 1,000 destitute women are reported in a coastal village near Kessab.

Gibraltar May 6 United States armored cruisers Montana and North Carolina after fueling at Guantanamo Cuba April 23 sail to Alexandra Turkey to safeguard American interests. Reports say Captain W A Marshall of the North Carolina will demand repraisals for killings of American missionaries during the Adana massacres.
Ben Beller and Joe Beller were cremated on the family farm after an accidental fire in the barn. Investigators say the blaze started late afternoon and gutted the structure, with both men identified by relatives. Local authorities are coordinating with fire marshals for a full report.
In Humphrey Nebraska two toddlers aged two and a half and three and a half were playing in a barn on their father's farm when a blaze started and consumed the barn and nearby outbuildings. The bodies were found amid charred remains later that evening. Parker May 6. Mrs Frank Plucker left behind her three year old child and ran off with her husband’s hired man Amos Krumelga. Plucker owns a livery stable near Lennox. Authorities believe they may be headed for Pierre.
The Gregory Daily Times ceases daily publication and continues as a weekly under L. A. Wilson. Wilson devoted about eighteen hours daily to management and the paper served varied local interests with strong patronage. He plans to revive the daily and establish a permanent booster when Gregory grows.
Chicago May 6 A report that James A Patten the wheat bull had returned to the city is today denied by authorities or associates, clarifying no firm evidence of his presence exists.
