Lincoln Neb March 7 Special to The News the senate made anti pass bill Nouse roll No 478 a special order for Friday afternoon at 2 oclock Panic followed adverse comments Governor Sheldon may demand full party pledge compliance and could call an extra session if not forthcoming
Sioux City reports that M B Mosler, secretary of the Sioux City and Rock Springs Coal company, claims Union Pacific backs Mrs A T Rifle in seeking a receiver and aims to absorb the coal company via courts. Mosler charges a railroad official promised a payoff to gain Beal's appointment and access to the company's books. A second note from Sioux Falls records C O Bailey named as additional receiver for Missouri River and Northwestern Railroad, backing W J Hayes & Sons of Cleveland.
The Rev. Nerbeth Osborne posts a petition urging President Roosevelt to dismiss Assistant Secretary of State Robert Bacon. Bacon is linked to attending the Stanford White dinner where the "girl in the pie" incident occurred, drawing local blame from Burtington officials.
In Wilber Nebraska on March 7 a district court jury found former County Judge Hosmer H. Hendee guilty of embezzling 3385 dollars. Sentencing was deferred.
E H Harriman gave a farewell interview to fifteen reporters declaring he would return to New York and halt interviews. He warned hard times would follow unless Congress and the public curb railroad and corporate influence, urging firmer currency and tariff actions despite lacking McKinley or Dingley era zeal. He avoided answering whether he gained Readying control.
Attorney General Bonaparte issued an opinion to the president stating that South Carolina officials cannot pay the passage of immigrants or aid immigration beyond advertisements. The ruling emphasizes that state funds should not cover immigrant passage.

Senator C. A. Randall of 6-aunty led a movement in Wayne Nebraska to defeat a bill taxing private and business colleges and normal schools. The measure was killed by a decisive vote after Randall cited the Wayne normal school’s growth and urged the senate to stop penalizing educational institutions.
In Sevastopol a bomb exploded under General Nepleuff’s carriage as he headed to a farewell banquet for Admiral Skrydlof. The commandant sustained foot injuries. His coachman and a passing woman were seriously hurt. The bomber escaped. this was the second such attack on the general within a year.
In Indianapolis on March 7 a man shot through a window killing Mrs. Fred Schwomeyer and William Gill. The husband said his home had been ruined and he fired after seeing his wife with Gill. Gill suffered five bullet wounds. the woman one. Both victims fled to neighbors before Schwomeyer was arrested. Authorities note the two men had been close friends for years.
The case of Steve Adams charged with the murder of Fred Tyler was given to the jury. Judge Richardson, for the defense, objected that the judge's instructions favored the state, rejecting many defense proposals while adopting many state-provided ones. No reference to the Western Federation of Miners appeared in the court's instructions.
The newly formed union of street car employees declared a strike against the Waterloo Cedar Rapids and Northern railway. Most workers quit, but cars ran with non union and office staff operating. The chief grievance is failure to receive pay at regular intervals.

A blaze on Filbert Street in a six story building caused $100000 damage. Five firemen were severely injured when a fire escape collapsed under them while battling the flames. Stern & Co shirt waists and the Standard Sewing Machine Company were among the hardest hit firms.
El Paso Tex March 7 a new storm lashes the Salton sea region with waves striking trains on Southern Pacific tracks. Reports say trains are delayed from eight to twenty four hours as lines run under water.
Rev. E Lawrence Hunt filed an appeal to the D C Court of Appeals from Justice Gould's decision granting a divorce to Charles C Bassett from Fanny Rice Bassett. Hunt was named corespondent in the divorce filing by Bassett.
In February 1907 the dead letter division returned undelivered mail to identifiable senders. The system, begun in January by Assistant Postmaster General De Graw, achieved 100 percent returns for February, handling 1,050,803 pieces versus 494,186 a year earlier. Opened letters yielded $5,945.58 across 6,212 items.
Seven people were injured in a collision on the Toledo St. Louis and Western near Neoga. A dust explosion at the Ethel coal mine near Logan West Virginia killed miner Ed Grover and injured several others. Berlin announced the death of Dr Karl Heinrich von Boetticher born 1833 former interior minister under Bismarck. A Pennsylvania Railroad train fell 25 feet near Irvington injuring nine. Senator Albert Beveridge spoke in New York defending a strong central government against states rights. Missouri Attorney General Hadley asked the Supreme Court to dismiss the appeal of death-row inmate Aggie Myers.
A Dover report details an ongoing effort to locate Dr. Moree oN’s missing four year old son, mentioning a lack of motive and possible enemies while noting a South Dakota angle and related public concern. The same issue reports a South Dakota divorce bill requiring a one year residence before filing, effectively halting many divorce suits in the state.
In Chicago on March 7 the Stinamid Oil Company defense challenged the government’s charge under the Elkins act for illicit rebates. They argued that shipments from Whiting Indiana to St Louis via Chicago and Alton did not violate the act since through rates to St Louis were not shown. Judge Landis ruled Alton ferry tariff sheets may be admitted as evidence after noting they were filed with the Interstate Commerce Commission.
