Washington March 1 The outlook for a land leasing bill in Nebraska improved after hearings as Lacey and Nebraska officials expect passage. The bill would require legislative approval before applying to public lands and may be adopted first by Nebraska then Wyoming and Montana with others following. Lincoln March 1 Nebraska insurance department declines to join investigations of Equitable and Mutual Life insurers due to time and funds.
Lincoln March 1. H M Wells of Crete moves a resolution endorsing the Hepburn rate bill and opposing amendments curbing interstate commerce commission power. it is ruled out of order. R L Metcalfe and J O Seacher spoke. Omaha to host convention next year. Lincoln March 1. Cal kins of State Bar calls lawyers to meet March 7 to assess Burkett bill creating South Platte federal district. if favored, a judge candidate may be recommended. Friends of Tom Munger say the meeting aims to block his appointment if the bill passes.
Boise March 1 The investigation of Moyer and associates in the Steunenberg murder will begin before the Caldwell grand jury. It may include Mary Orchard who is said to confess to his role. Orchard described two failed plots to kill the former governor including a bomb wired across his path. The device resembled one used on Judge Goddard in Denver.

In Albion Nebraska March 1 The News reports the courthouse buzz as grand jury indictments bootlegging cases draw witnesses from across the county. Notable trials include Bureh A Baldwin acquitted after three days and eighteen hours of deliberation for subordination of perjury and Ole Bringin v Potts deciding in favor of the plaintiff with a $20.50 judgment. A city marshal case against John Wies proceeds while Frank Gray of Cedar Rapids visits the county seat as a noted evangelist. Rumor says Gav Williams is to become postmaster here with a new office in sight.
Thomas Dettman shot and killed his brother in law Thomas Fennen during a quarrel about the death of Dettman's sister, Mrs Fennen, whose body lay in an adjoining room awaiting burial. Dettman then shot himself and died instantly while attending the funeral.
In Paris on March 1 the suit by Countess Boni de Castellane against her husband for separation was reached for the first tribunal of the Seine but adjourned for a fortnight to fix a hearing date.

Cleveland March 1. It is stated a deal will pass the Iron ore properties of James J Hill on the Mesaba range to United States Steel corporation for about thirty years. The ore produced in Lake Superior for over fifty years would be under new control in a major transfer of mineral assets.
