Chicago January 28 coroner’s inquest into the crib fire on Lake Michigan that killed nearly seventy workers resumes. Witnesses say the crib acted as a fire trap and manual handling left fuel and receptacles soaked, and the fire spread so fast that even a moored tug could not have saved all employees.
William Wilson known as te BIN to local baseball fans married Mamie O MalIy in Fremont on Wednesday forenoon after a late Tuesday night dance. The groom, catcher for O Neill champions the past two seasons, signed with Keokuk in the Central association for next season.

In Pierre on January 28 the South Dakota Senate considered bills by Dillon to trim future legislative costs by reducing clerical staff and shifting bill engrossing to typewriters, plus removal of engrossing as a perquisite and control by the secretary of state. Both houses set February 15 as the final date to introduce new bills. The House limited activity to a few measures including Beatty’s resolution urging Congress to grant homestead opportunities.
Pears are entertained that Hans Hanson aged about fifty has been the victim of foul play. He vanished from Sioux Falls and is known to have had 10400 in cash and a $1900 draft in his possession. Part of the sum came from the old country and he recently received drafts from Minot North Dakota which he converted to cash except the 1600 dollar draft.
In Springfield on January 28 the joint session tallied Hopkins 72 Stringer 74 Fossa 1 with others unchanged. A constitutional majority was 107 and a majority of those present would be 97. Adjournment was set until Tuesday. In Madison on January 28 Stevenson received 60 of 192 votes in the session.
Charles I. Nord ex real estate dealer is jailed in Omaha on a charge of passing worthless checks. Arrest stemmed from a grocer’s warrant. Nord’s trunk held hundreds of letters from women nationwide, all addressing him with affection and mentions of loans for a future marriage.
The annual Men’s club banquet at the Congregational church basement drew about fifty members and guests. Rev. W. F. Clark presided, with talks on Brotherhood, Our Finances, Man and His Missionary Activities, Good Citizenship, and Leadership. Officers were elected: O. A. Williams president. Prof. A. B. Fisher vice president. A. V. Anderson secretary. J. C. Jenkins treasurer.
New York fire razed the Rankin residence early today. Anastasia Burns and her sister Nellie, both maids, were seriously hurt when they leaped from a third story window to escape the flames.

In Papillion Nebraska on June 28 three suspects were arrested while disposing of cheap jewelry. A double skeleton key was found in their possession. The men are believed to be headed to a nearby city for robbery.
The American National Live Stock Association convened for its third day with optimism that progress on grazing and range control would spur a breakthrough between cattlemen and authorities.

Springfield Alabama January 28 deep waterways committee introduced in the senate a bill creating a five member board to carry out plans for a deep waterway from Lockport to Utica. A twenty million dollar bond issue for the project is already authorized.
