Lincoln December 24 The state banking board released a hopeful report on state banks as of November 17 showing deposits at 37 073 882 24 and total resources of 48 012 109 54. Loans and discounts reach 34 5360 929 29 with 601 banks in operation, up from 479 a year ago.
Special to The News reports Inter-state Electric Light and Power company began operations last night in Butte Neb with the town fully covered by the new system. The rollout marks a major improvement for Butte as residents prepare for Christmas travel with fifty leaving for Norfolk and other eastern points.
Ainsworth Nebraska reports unseasonably warm weather with clear sun and a springlike day. Ellsworth P. De France, after serving fifteen years minus good time for stealing two cents postage, is released from the Sioux Falls penitentiary. The case began with a Nebraska mail car theft in which only a postage stamp was obtained, yet he received a life sentence later commuted by President McKinley to fifteen years. Attorney General Knox ordered two months at Omaha before returning to Sioux Falls.
J H King a settler in Antelope County died at his daughter's Oakdale home on December 24 at about sixty. He had suffered for years and was bedbound for about a month. Survived by his daughter and two sons. funeral set for tomorrow at 9 o clock.
