A suspension bridge across the Elk River linking East and West Charleston, West Virginia, collapsed with an estimated fifty people on it. At least fifteen children drowned, with two bodies recovered within an hour. Rescuers and a government diver searched the riverbed as officials feared a higher death toll.
Four sailors died and two were fatally burned in an engine room explosion on the battleship Massachusetts at League Island navy yards. All victims were horribly burned in the blast that occurred today.
Tokyo reports that on the 18th the bombardment hit the arsenal and torpedo depot at Tiger Tail and Breambonts, destroying three ships and sinking one. Indirect bombardment on Sevastopol was halted by bad weather. Togo says torpedo boats attacked Sevastopol on the 12th and 13th nights. one boat was disabled, three damaged. three men wounded in total.
The El Kahir temple Nobles of the Mystic Shrine held its annual meeting in Cedar Rapids Iowa with about 150 Shriners from the region present. Twenty candidates were initiated and the session elected C. O. Johnson illustrious potentate and W. G. Haskell illustrious chief rabban.
New York December 15 The Standard Oil dividend remains below prior years with a 7 percent payout for 1904 totaling 40 a share, down from 44 in 1903 and 45 in 1902. John D Rockefeller, owner of about 400000 shares, earns 14400000 this year, down 3200000 from last year, offset by higher dividends from Consolidated Gas and other Rockefeller holdings. Oppose Uniform Bill of Lading hearing resumes in Washington with railroad and shipper representatives summoned before the Interstate Commerce Commission.
The court voided the seventh precinct of Denver’s eighth ward citing fraud, potentially impacting statewide results. Chief Justice Gabbert asserts courts may undo fraud under orders, while Justice Steele dissents, calling the ruling unwarranted and contrary to law.

Mrs Chadwick believed her husband had sailed for New York but investigators find Mr Chadwick remaining in Paris. She says he intends to return to America while press reports claim he left France for New York.

Indictments mount as federal charges accuse Beckwith Spear and Chadwick associates of bank fraud and conspiracy. The grand jury hears Beckwith's so called confession about Carnegie notes and forged endorsements.
Washington December 15 The Inaugural Committee received a request from the Tammany Organization of New York for a favorable position in the inaugural parade. The move drew interest at headquarters with estimates of a several hundred Tammany men likely to attend. Invitations have been sent to all state governors for the ceremonies.
