Nebraska notice states Today closes the quail and prairie chicken season after a 30 day limit. After midnight tonight all quail and prairie chickens within the state face a minimum $5 fine plus costs for killing. The article notes two years of protection increased coveys and warns about the gun’s impact on hunting customs and dog use.
LeRoy Leach world champion rifle shot will perform at the Norfolk Gun Club grounds next Saturday using rifle and shotgun. The Nebraska marksman, from Woodlake, has a record of 1 600 straight targets at Cincinnati and other feats including 990 flying targets and 1 019 straight shots at close range. The free exhibition is expected to draw a large crowd.
Norfolk story reports State Game Warden George L. Carter and deputy visiting to hunt quail. Carter showcased a rapid fire gun at Fair store. misfire caused an explosion drilling a hole to the banana room floor. No injuries noted in accessible account.
George Wantlin a Northwestern brakeman is off work after a heavy casting fell on his foot at Wisner. The accident crushed the toe making wearing a shoe impossible and delaying his return from layoff around Thanksgiving.

Miss Velzo Beswick and Mr. Fred Byerly wed in Pierce with Judge Williams officiating. The bride is daughter of R. W. Beswick and the groom is a prosperous young farmer south of the city. They will start housekeeping and host many friends.
A Northwestern special train carried Manager Bidwell Superintendent C C Hughes Superintendent H Reynolds and Engineer Schenck to Bonesteel for an inspection tour. The party returned with Hughes heading to Sioux City and Reynolds to Long Pine. Rumor linked the trip to a proposed extension, but railroad HQ says it was only a line inspection. Hughes is not yet moved to Norfolk but expected soon.
State Architect James Tyler Jr arrived in Norfolk from Lincoln to inspect the ruined hospital site. He will stay several days to guide property layout and ensure plans meet the institution's needs. The state board of public lands and buildings will visit to review grounds before letting the reconstruction contract. Local citizens who supported the appropriation accompanied him.
Fire in Greeley Nebraska destroyed a Catholic church between 11pm and 2am. Little of the contents were saved as townspeople confined the blaze to the church with considerable effort. Insurance on the property stood at 32800 dollars.
Word from the Madison County district court clerk reported to Commissioner Winter that the jury is called off and no jurors are needed.
Anton Volkner, NW of town, delivered hogs Monday then loitered in town until late. He says he was assaulted about a mile from town, struck on the head with a club. His horses were steered back to town and he suffered bruised, bleeding head and face, with a disabled left shoulder and arm.
Norfolk boys celebrate Thanksgiving with a new piano for Karl Krantz who had bought it the day before. The house songfilled day marks a proud moment as the instrument arrives for his use.
Frank Perry, a Norfolk high school alumnus and freshman tackle for the Nebraska team, played throughout the Thanksgiving Day game at Lincoln against Illinois. His weight and physique earned him early honor as a wearer of the university’s N, with expectations his name will rise statewide and nationwide after more gridiron seasons.
The Norfolk team relied on Tron We W as its standout during the match and is expected to earn hike honors on the university squad. Perry delivered solid tackles and a pivotal punt return while Wilson and Hager boosted the scoring drive as Nebraaka fought hard in the second half.
Rural carriers organized a Madison County branch of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association. Officers were elected and a constitution adopted. James Ronse, L. Liew, J. E. Roels, G. Long, and Rydearson were among attendees. A resolution thanked President Cunningham and affirmed support for rural delivery, with the Rural Free Delivery News cited as the association’s organ.
Mrs Join Prichard died after three weeks of severe illness tied to blood poisoning amid rumors of an attempted abortion. Her husband, Mr Prichard, had moved from Kimball to Bonesteel for work. A warrant charges adultery against Prichard, with burial planned in Wagner.
In Hartford's barber shop a small orange tree has thrived in an indoor window, producing fruit that tastes nearly bland. Friends sampled the Nebraska grown orange, marking a unique local curiosity in a California or Florida climate dream.
The Norfolk Presbyterian church at the corner of PHI awonuwe red NI street was dedicated with Dr William delivering a strong sermon on The Theal Church. The service featured violin duets and a choir led by Miss Annie Davenport, Mrs Stismong, and others, with Rev. F P Wigton and Rev F F Sharpless providing addresses. The building, heated by hot air and lit by gas, accommodates about 200 and cost 1200 for construction plus 800 site cost, funded mainly by local members and several outside contributors.
In April 1896 eleven Norfolk residents petitioned Niobrara presbytery to form a Presbyterian church. Rev. E Kimble and Rev. S F Sharpless were appointed to organize, with the church officially organized on April 24 1896. Charter members include the eleven petitioners, and Dr J W Plummer along with J C Ransdell were elected elders. Initial funding shortfalls left the church under mission board care.
Mrs Hugh A Salmon and Miss Louie daughter of C F King were quietly married on Wednesday evening with Rev L Wigton officiating. The bride has long served as an armist in the Presbyterian church and is popular. The groom works in the Chicago and Northwestern railroad bridge and building department, where his father in law is superintendent for Nebraska.
The little daughter of Mr and Mrs George Williams is very sick with typhoid pneumonia as reported in a local household update noting the serious illness.
The Jolly Dogon club of South Norfolk entertained a society gathering at Railway hall with Progressive High Five as the main feature. Mr. and Mrs. Orr won head prizes, Consolations went to Mrs. Chas Durham and Mr. Johnson. A June reception followed as the evening ended.
Rev Father Shyne ends a four week stay in northern Nebraska after delivering mission lectures in Norfolk Battle Creek Spencer and Tilden. He returns to Norfolk for a day with Rev Father Walsh before heading to southern Iowa to continue similar work.
Robert Lirm lost four steers to corn stalk disease last week. Mrs Sadie Cropper and daughter Tekamah are guests of Sarah Cropper. Arthur Ranney suffers a sprained ankle from a sidewalk mishap in front of Room. P Friday hosted a large dance with many guests, refreshments served and enjoyed.
