In Stanton Nebraska on August 20 special to The News, late rains benefited crops. The balfineh that fell yesterday will start fall seeding of alfalfa, with more alfalfa sown this year than ever before. Winter wheat acreage will be one third larger than last year.
Stanton Nebraska August 29 special The News reports T. Kitterman has sold his real estate interest to partner James Peters and will move to western Nebraska to continue the trade. Kitterman resigns as secretary of the fair association. W H Hyland elected to replace him. The Stanton fair is set for October 1 to 4. M L Scott of Standard Bridge Co bought the Joseph Herrick farm halfway between Stanton and Norfolk. George Pfifer visits from Plainview.
Dr H H Douglas Singer resigns from the Nebraska state hospital in Norfolk to become director of the psychopathic institute in Kanakee Illinois. The institute studies the history of nervous diseases, plans a laboratory, and offers high salaries and cross state training for physicians. Singer, a Nebraskan with a London education, begins Sept. 15 and will manage a major state project aimed at advancing cure-focused care.

Sinton Nebraska August 29 Special to The News Stanton county Institute begins session August 26 and runs to August 60 under County Superintendent Charles Coney. Instructors include J H Welch F K Morrow A L Riker Evith Martin G M Hawking Mires M Gaittery W Bl Clemmons and others. Fifty seven teachers registered with all but two being women.
Washington Aug 26. Testimony by Conway Troder van of the Southern Railway in the North Carolina rate case warns that adverse effects from rate legislation would impose shared burdens on the state. He notes congestion relief in six months due to system improvements and argues that more rate cuts would reduce overall business and trade. He cites limited cash for expanding facilities and favors a mutual understanding between railroads and the public as copartners in setting fair rates.
The Swedish prince began his first New York visit with a luncheon with President Rosevelt an informal dinner at the Hotel Astor and a tour view of Broadway under bright neon lights. He received hearty greetings from hundreds of Swedes during these events.

A man jailed at Osceola Nebraska is identified as Benjamin Cravens a noted criminal who escaped from Kansas Penitentiary Lansing during a prisoner mutiny on November 16 1900.
William A. Larned of Annapolis won the all-comers final defeating Robert Leroy of New York in straight sets. Larned also claimed the championship title and the association trophy by default from W. J. Clothier of Philadelphia.
An automobile led by Dr George Waldron of Rochester collided with a trolley car on tracks near Rochester New York on August 29 killing four women and injuring others. Victims include Mrs June Holle of Hopewell and Mrs Katherine P Mariewoih of Moochester. The crash occurred as the car failed to respond to controls and was dragged along the tracks before overturning.
A vehicle collision resulted in a death and serious injuries among nearby relatives. Authorities report a crash scenario with several occupants hospitalized and ongoing investigations into the events surrounding the incident.
A motorcycle crashed into a carriage near Iron Mountain station injuring several riders and passengers. Walter Grate aged seven is in danger of dying, while Ed Warn Lambert and Dug Get along with Oliver Copate and Par Ty Frier suffer serious bruises but are not in immediate danger. The motorcyclist Lee Tt. Mann escaped with minor injuries.
Des Moines August 2 Kennedy a hotel crook was arrested while prowling the room of James McCarthy a Chicago detective at the Kirkwood hotel The detective changed his trousers in the closet when the thief entered and began taking inventory of the woods in the room McCarthy tackled the intruder but he was captured in the hall
Mrs. Anna A. Houcke died from injuries after a Numidian lion escaped from a side show at Luna Park in Pittsburg. The beast lung punctured her lung and broke several ribs in the attack reported August 29.
Chicago reports collector Davis Kahn of Singer Sewing Machine Co accused of defrauding the company of a large sum. Company officials refuse to specify the amount but confirm it was substantial. Kahn arrested on a warrant supplied by a surety company that had pursued him.
