At the convention in the Ponca Statesman district the vote was taken on the first ballot. Boyd led with 129 to McCarthy 95. Stockwell of Nance switched to Boyd and counties began to rally behind him, signaling a shift in support.
Fremont dispatch reports Judge J F Boyd of Neligh nominated on the first ballot for congress by the Third district convention the tally showing Boyd 12014 McCarthy 9515 Young 4395 with Stockwell briefly altering to give Boyd a narrow margin. The convention then adjourned to reconvene after a recess granting a largely unanimous nomination process.
Early forecast from Fremont Nebraska states Boyd is likely to be nominated on the first ballot. McCarthy and Young backers show fatigue after a long night of campaigning as delegates arrive for the convention. Analysts predict Boyd may enter with about 128 votes to 95 for McCarthy and 5 for Young.

Cheyenne reports no information substantiating sensational rumors of trouble near the proposed new townsite between Lander and Shoshoni. Officials say current homestead filings and townsite draws should prevent a repetition of past Oklahoma upheavals and all issues will be settled peacefully.
Mrs Sophia H Eby of West Liberty Pennsylvania died in Grand Rapids Michigan after crossing Lake Michigan from Chicago. She became violently seasick, grew unconscious, and did not recover.
Kansas secretary F D Coburn reports the state’s 1906 winter wheat yield at 91,485,676 bushels, up 41 percent from 1904 and 20 percent above last year. The early estimate notes high quality grain with an average yield around 14.7 to 15.3 bushels per acre and marks the second greatest crop in state history.
Reports from St. Petersburg and Warsaw recount a day of deadly street clashes and bomb incidents as revolutionists confront police and troops across the empire. Officials cite martial law on rail lines and in the Caucasus with numerous casualties among police, soldiers, and civilians.
Aug 16 report cites numerous clashes between revolutionists and police. Conspirators killed seventeen policemen four gendarmes and seven infantry patrolmen and wounded many. Soldiers fired on a crowd killing fifteen and wounding about 130 others.
August 16 Ankeny Iowa B A La Mason cashier of the Bank of Ankeny was struck by lightning and killed instantly while in a barn. The death was the sole fatality of a severe electric rainstorm that swept the area.
Aug 16 in Buenos Aires Ayres Secretary of State Root attends a view to national primary schools and races with President Alcorta in the state carriage. The press notes his speech was favorably regarded.
A bargain day rush at Woolworths in St Joseph Missouri injures many with one woman fatally and others seriously hurt. Police briefly close then reopen the store as the crowd disperses. Elsewhere in Binback Minnesota wildfires force settlers to abandon homes and animals head to towns as rain is needed.
Ed Yount, a young farmer near Center Nebraska, suffered severe scalding when a hot water pouge and hot water blew from a Holler head during threshing work. He was rushed to Creighton hospital and doctors say his recovery is doubtful.
Creighton Nel Aug 16 Special to The News: The son of THI Yount severely scalded in a threshing machine accident near Centor was brought here last night. He was burned when hot water and a plug blew into his face. Doctors hope to save his life though his face may peel away.
Storm Lake Iowa officials announce Park Brothers were awarded the Creighton school house contract at a little under $20,000. The Storm Lake firm offered the lowest bid for the handsome new building.
The Nebraska Socialist state convention in Lincoln drew seventy five delegates. A full state ticket was named led by John P. Roe of Omaha for U S senator and Ezra Taylor of Broken Bow for governor.
Lincoln reports T. J. Doyle of Lincoln nominated for Congress by the Democrats of the First district. H. Hanks of Otoe was initially named but declined the nomination.
Greenville Mississippi Aug 16 reports a mob surrounding Bob Davis the Black man accused of assaulting Mrs Brooks at Greenwood. Sheriff McCaslan is with the group but authorities fear they cannot prevent a lynching.
In Megoffin county Kentucky Warnie Arnett was killed Clay Gullett was fatally wounded Laander Meisner and John Gullett badly wounded in a feud between the Arnetts and Gullets. In Topeka quarantine against Texas fever district established for Cherokee county cattle dipping required. In Buffalo two men died in a fire at the Buffalo ship Chandlery and Supply company loss $76,000 with Captain James Robertson and Charles Johnson killed.
The Chicago Weather Bureau bulletin provides the twenty four hour forecast for Nebraska with fair conditions tonight and cooler temperatures in the eastern portion. It notes a cooler air mass and a warm day ahead with no precipitation indicated.
The Fortieth Grand Army of the Republic parade in Minneapolis featured Columbia Post of Chicago as escort to Commander in Chief Tanner. Heat and fatigue led to 46 prostrations and 8 injuries with 5 deaths reported to date. relief squads aided many spectators and veterans along the route.
The Society of the Army of the Philippines elected officers led by Commander in Chief Major General Arthur McArthur. Other posts include H A Crow, E L Hamilton, Earl C Carnahan, J Franklin Bell, G E Weinheimer, Speere, W S Conkling, C B Lewis, M J O Donnell, and Rev J A Beebe. Next year’s meeting will be in Kansas City.
