In Clearwater Nebraska the Rothe family suffers multiple fatalities. A baby burned in Humphrey preceded the oldest daughter’s death, then a son drowned in the Elkhorn River, and the mother died today after enduring these losses.
Sol Alabaugh was stabbed to death by Frank Boren in DuBois Pawnee County Nebraska last night after a renewed dispute. Boren says Alabaugh struck first and used a pocket knife in self defense. Coroner and sheriff went to DuBois as inquest results awaited.
Judge Toliver acting for Warren Townsend sold the meteor found on Townsend’s land in 1900 to Prof. B. E. Howell of Washington D C for two hundred dollars. The meteor was shipped on Monday.
W Furse and wife and sister returned from a two week Enders lake outing with tales of huge bass catches. They planned to eat four large fish daily for two weeks but bones began to stick out after four days. One daily fish meal finally satisfied them as they kept fishing and displaying catches before returning home.
Under the 2 cent fare law ticket sales at the Rock Island office in Atlantic La. surged in July by 3313 percent compared with July 1906. The report notes a dramatic rise in passenger traffic and revenue linked to the fare policy.

Fire swept the Central block behind the Central hotel in Verdigre Nebraska around 2 45 this afternoon. Prompt citizen action prevented wider destruction. The loss was minor and covered by insurance, leaving the town grateful.
Fred Nye associate editor of the New York World died from injuries after being struck by a car on Lenox Avenue in Harlem. He was fifty one and well known in Nebraska newspaper circles years ago. The body will be sent to Nebraska for interment.
President Small of the Commercial Telegraphers union, en route from San Francisco to Chicago, passed through Omaha at midnight and gave no clear stance on spreading the strike. Western Union messenger boys in Omaha who walked out for sympathy returned after a wage raise. A San Francisco dispatch reports the Pacific coast telegraph tie up is complete.
Superintendent of Streets James H. Doyle and Charlestown Councilman James H. Watton were indicted in Boston for offering a gratuity related to the $1.6 million loan bill. Doyle faces two counts and Watton a perjury charge. Both were arraigned before Judge Schofield and held for trial with bonds set at $3,000 each.
Edward M. Morgan, who has acted as postmaster since the retirement of Wilcox, is definitively chosen for the New York postmaster position by President Roosevelt and will receive formal announcement of the appointment.

New York August 15 The strike by telegraph operators loses hopes for presidential intervention after Western Union President Clowry says no arbitration offer will be accepted. The Order of Railway Telegraphers also faces a setback as Western Union and allied companies refuse to have employees handle commercial messages on railroad wires.
Reports from New York indicate both Western Union and Postal Telegraph are satisfied with progress toward a normal service. In Chicago brokers and telegraphers discuss union contracts as the strike extends to about a dozen more cities with several large firms already signing the union scale.
President Roosevelt will not personally intervene in the twographers' strike. Appeals from trade bodies across cities were referred to Labor Commissioner Neill. Neill has worked to settle the dispute and has not reported to the president or received direct instructions.

John W. Reeves and Frank Kiser implicated in a dynamite attack that killed five and injured many at Boulder Colorado. A caboose was torched triggering the blast destroying the Colorado and Southern station and causing extensive property loss. Reeves fled jail as a mob sought to lynch him and was taken to Denver for safety.
