Eagles Likely Win Hospe Piano Contest in Norfolk

The Fraternal Order of Eagles are favored to manipulate the Hospe piano as coupons are counted for a city contest. Eagles claim about 250 000 coupons versus Queen City hotel 147 500 with final tally due at noon. Balloting has excited merchants who issued coupons with every twenty five cent purchase and vote counting continues.

Pioneer Carl Asmus Dies After Operation in Omaha Hospice

Norfolk business leader Carl Asmus died in an Omaha hospital after an operation to remove gravel stones. A native of northern Prussia born October 22, 1838, he helped build the Union Pacific and later ran a general merchandise and liquor business in Norfolk. Surviving are his wife Louise Koch and six children, with four living in Norfolk. Funeral plans were not finalized.
