Doctor works with electrifying pain
Ronald Ammon, 30, of Goshen, fell in a Milford discount store after a drug withdrawal seizure linked to back pain. Dr. Ruth Colby explains the Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Simulator, or TENS, as a non chemical relief used to curb addiction and restore work capacity. The device, worn like a belt calculator, delivers nerve impulses via skin contacts and costs under 500 dollars plus batteries. Colby notes limited local use but growing acceptance, with two units in Milford and about 25 in the Cincinnati area. Vocational retraining plans are underway for Ammon.
