Fierce Robbery Attempt Ends in Shootout in Mingo
In Mingo at about 11 pm Thursday Fred Stier, a known troublemaker, tried to rob Elliott's drug store. He fired at Elliott, who was wounded in the cheek but not seriously. Stier fled, chased by a crowd and lawmen, with a reward offered for his capture. Elliott was treated in Marshalltown after surgery to remove a bullet from his jaw.

The Jasper County Christian Endeavor convention met Tuesday at 2 30 p m and ran through Wednesday Oct 18 with broad county participation. Death of a Young Wife in Newton Area
Mrs Bert Wilson died at her home northeast of Newton on Thursday morning last and was buried in Newton cemetery Saturday. Funeral services were held at First Presbyterian Church by Rev R F Chambers. Anna Robinson, daughter of Mr and Mrs Harvey Robinson, was beloved in the community. She married Bert Wilson last February and her sickness and death cut their bright plans short. The sorrow falls on her husband and both families. At great expense Manager Lister has secured Miss Clara Thropp and company in Ibsen's A Doll's House for Monday, a major dramatic event of the season.
