A fragmentary notice from a late 19th century paper outlines rapid growth of readers and a list of new subscribers and renewing members, followed by a tragedy report from Minneapolis involving Annie Thomas and her children Warren and Dora, then Epworth League updates inclining church activities and forthcoming Ascension Day observance by Oriental Commandery No.2 K.T.
A Newton correspondent reports rapid growth of Junior C E societies led by Miss Belle Smith and Miss Belle teacher in Newton schools. The piece also covers a six oclock wedding of Chas S Brown and Fannie Roe of Wiota with Rev Rice officiating, and a Rock Island stock train two engine heavy freight from Newton area with cattle hogs and grain moving via Sumner Gates and others.
The Iowa Intercollegiate Association brings seven leading colleges to Grinnell for the State Field Day on May 21 1905 drawing over 125 athletes to 17 events including jumping pole vaulting running and cycling. Grinnell’s fast track fuels optimism for state records and a strong turnout. First Band Concert to be held next Wednesday in the square by the E T band a volunteer event promising a summer concert series for Newton and surrounding area.
A Newton town concert led by Gilmore featured martial music, chorus and soloists, drawing a large crowd and stirring old memories of Gettysburg, with Mrs Rodgers and Miss Townsend praised for directing. Fire department and Sunday school notices followed, along with local business notes and social updates.
Ton Normal Schoolsumed his new duties this week. Mr. Ross, though young in years, will finish his tour at the Don servatory of Music in J Strong, under whose teaching he has such rapid advancement, pres brilliant future for this young ond Newton is to be congratulated securing his services for the come ing year.
