Newton and Vicinity talk of meetings and upcomings

The Jasper County Bible Society will hold its annual meeting at the Congregational church next Sunday evening with Rev. W Hughes state agent of the A B S to speak followed by Judge Ryan. An overflow meeting in the M E church will also have Rev. Hughes. The column notes many residents visiting, moving, and social events including visits to Des Moines Chicago Kellogg and Colfax, house improvements, and a real estate sales appearance by Hanson Hanson at the Hotel Churchill on Wednesday May 20 offering land from 6 to 10 dollars per acre with six percent interest.

Ascension Day Services at Oriental Commandery

Ascension Day services were held by Oriental Commandery with an address and a choir. knights decorated graves in the cemetery for members including J. M. Rodgers and J. Hughes. Afterward, the group shared supper at the asylum and heard toasts led by J. P. Newell, with music from the K. T. band to conclude the gathering.
