Remarkable Senn skin graft triumph in Chicago surgery
Dr Nicholas Senn pioneers a skin grafting method by placing a skin sling from the patient's stomach onto a severely burned hand. The procedure, performed on E. E. Lyday of Newton Iowa after a train wreck scarred his hand, shows the skin growing over the hand and a staged transfer of skin from chest to hand. The operation, conducted at St Joseph's hospital, marks a major advance in grafting with Prof Senn's clinics noted.
