Newton High Commencement Fetes 1902 Graduates
Eleven young ladies and five young gentlemen received diplomas at Newton High School in an Evening with Shakespeare. The packed opera house praised the music directed by Mrs. T. M. Rodgers and praised Prof. Beard for an improved program. Graduation featured dramatic orations on Shakespeare plays and a large alumni banquet followed by toasts.

Mrs A D Griffin Dies After Long Illness in Newton
Mrs A D Griffin, aged 64, longtime Newton resident and New York native, died peacefully at home on East McDonald Street last Tuesday morning after extended suffering. She was a devoted wife of more than forty years and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be at 4 pm Thursday at the residence, conducted by Rev. R F Chambers.

A dispatch from Council Bluffs to the Des Moines Leader reports T. J. Gannon, Rock Island ticket agent since March 1, has been missing from his home since yesterday morning. He is believed to have misappropriated about $1000, with exact loss undetermined. A 28 year old veteran of the Philippine War, formerly at Guthrie Center, he left his wife in Council Bluffs. his parents live near Marshalltown. He is married April 23. His downfall is attributed to gambling.
