Feather Movement inspires audience at opera house
A resized audience greeted Miss Patten’s class on Tuesday evening at the opera house. The program featured a stage full of white clad girls in The Feather Movement and a skit Athenaeans with eight young ladies portraying wives of ancient philosophers. Solos by Miss Lettie Earley and Miss Inez Adair impressed, while Strude Hocking and Eile Clausen delivered popular recitations. The Mandolin Club provided musical interludes, making the evening enjoyable and well received despite a smaller crowd.

Peaceful passing of Mrs Cornelia Beebee Meyer
Mrs Cornelia Beebee Meyer died last Wednesday after a long illness. A devoted community leader and church worker, she influenced Newton through numerous public and church activities. Born in Bristol New York in 182 she moved to Ohio then Newton with husband John Meyer in 1857. Survived by eight children and daughter Mrs C M Fisk, her death leaves a broad gap in local civic and religious life. In a separate incident Mrs Mershon narrowly escaped a monster bull snake intruding from the cellar space, a yard long reptile captured after a brief struggle.
