Listen, an aged Buena Vista patriarch dies at seventy six
Jonathan Listen of Buena Vista Township dies Sunday morning January 24 at age 76 after a lengthy illness. Born December 15, 1825 in West Moreland County Virginia, he moved to Ohio, married Mary Jane Pawnell in 1849, then to Jasper and Buena Vista where he lived the rest of his life. He leaves eight children and was buried at Mt Zion. a large funeral followed a January 25 service.

Tragic Accident Claims Fort Dodge Finishing Worker
Mrs. K C Ogg rushed to Fort Dodge after a fatal accident left Mart Newton in a critical state. While eating lunch at the foot of a winding stair, a scaffold board dislodged above reportedly struck him unseen, causing unconsciousness. He was taken to hospital where care continues as his condition remains critical.

Jap Timbrel Hero of Lost Creek Mining Rescue Near Oskaloosa
Jap Timbrel, longtime central depot grain manager and former Mahaska deputy, led a gallant rescue team in the Lost Creek Mining horror near Oskaloosa last week. He faced deadly gas while helping miners trapped over a hundred feet underground and was nearly suffocated before being dragged to safety. He married Newton girl Hattie Scott, granddaughter of Mrs Ruth McCord.

Death of Maud Earley Leaves Local Family Mourning
Sorrow fills the community after the death of Miss Maud Earley, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Geo G Earley. She passed away shortly after one o clock Tuesday afternoon just after her twentieth birthday. Funeral services will be held at the First M E church at 2 pm this Thursday. At the country home of Mr and Mrs J W Janeway about thirty five relatives and friends witnessed the wedding of their daughter Miss Dora J Janeway to S C Meredith.
