George W. McCall, a Civil War veteran from Jasper county who enlisted with Company C of the 22nd Iowa Infantry, died at his home in Runnels on December 21. He was sixty five years old, survived by six children, and had suffered lung and heart trouble after three months confinement. Comrades recall his bravest, merry nature and await the final roll call at dawn.

Miss Georgie Murdoch Injured At Local Laundry
Miss Georgie Murdoch suffered a severe hand injury at Hough and Kennedy's Model Laundry when her left hand was caught in a steam mangler. Assistants Miss Mabel Trafton and Miss Jennie Murdoch helped, the machine reversed, and doctors Smead and Boyd treated the lacerations. No bone was broken though the hand will bear marks for some time.

The Newton and Monroe depot and grounds have new owners since January 1 when Ritter & Morton bought them from Jasper County Coal Co for four thousand dollars and took possession. McCardell & Son resigned as depot agents and sold their coal business to the same buyers. James Morton bought McCardell's Main street residence for five hundred dollars, with possession due March 1.

Child Slips on Ice Breaks Left Thigh Near Killduff
Carroll Kline ten year old son of Mr and Mrs Abe Kline living north of Killduff slipped on the ice last Monday afternoon and broke the bone of his left thigh near the lower end. It was a severe fracture but Dr Smead with his son Leslie a Northwestern University medical student from Chicago set the bone and Carroll is progressing well. Mrs Charlie Rommell and her child Roovie visited Menateziuma Tuesday with relatives and old friends. The note hopes for pleasant time and extends sympathy for Charlie in his tonliness.
