Fireworks stands may appear as residents prepare for July Fourth but federal restrictions limit powder charges and object to rural shooting. Newton officials warn against firing near uncut wheat fields and urge permits for stands, while counties note no city prohibition but caution.
Two Kansas women Carolyn Schultz and Adelia Stucky published Wheat Weaving Made Easy through Mennonite Press. The 119 page instructional book covers history, materials, step by step weaves, and diagrams with photos by Mike Hinz. They began writing after a two year growing interest and have taught classes at Bethel College.
The Supreme Court 7-2 rules Congress acted within authority to seize Nixon era tapes and 42 million pages under the Presidential Recordings and Materials Preservation Act. The decision upholds public access regulations via the General Services Administration and rejects Nixon attorneys' constitutional challenges. An arts and crafts sale opens at 10 a m with the Bob Ottaway Carnival in the park, and a new 1 admission charge for 18 and over aims to balance costs, funded by the Peabody Chamber of Commerce and Jaycees.
