KG and E employees were recognized by the National Safety Council for completing more than one million man hours of work without a lost time accident. The safe work record highlighted sustained safety performance across the Kansas Gas and Electric operation.
Hiebert promoted compiled between Oct 24 and Apr 26 marks a milestone as KG&E earns million man hour safety recognition. Elmer Hall notes the award reflects real employee awareness and effort, not luck, and cites decades of top safety rankings.
Dr. William E. Lampton will become associate director of the Associated Colleges of Central Kansas on July 1, succeeding Dr. James Kennison who left ACCK in January. Lampton, 39, comes from Millsaps College where he was associate director of development and holds a PhD from Ohio University in speech communication.
Don H. Baker of El Dorado has been named Gas Service Co. superintendent in the city. Baker, formerly engineer supervisor of utilization in El Dorado, joined the Wichita firm in 1948 and moved to El Dorado in 1954 as assistant superintendent. He has led the El Dorado post since 1965, is a Cowley County Community College and Wichita State graduate, and with wife has three sons and plans to relocate when housing is found. (Kansan Photo)
On June 21 various events mark U S historical milestones. 1788 the constitution went into effect as North Carolina ratified it becoming ninth state. Cyrus McCormick received patent for the reaping machine in 1834. First U S troops landed in Cuba in 1898. Scapa Flow interned German fleet scuttled in 1919. Tobruk fell in 1942 with 30 000 British prisoners taken.
The Hesston Division of Hesston Corporation earned the Professional Development Award from the Kansas Engineering Society at its annual banquet in Topeka. Chief Engineer Dave Fritz accepted the honor for advancing engineering profession practices and encouraging progressive employment standards. The Kansas Gas and Electric Co. also received the award.
Six Soviet technicians led by Dr. Valentin Tkachev visited Hesston Corp for two weeks, touring Field Queen in Wichita and other Kansas plants including Curtis Mfg in Dodge City and Cessna fluid power in Hutchinson. Accompanying officials were Phil Barger of Hesston and Ceres International representatives.
Mr and Phil Epp opened a contemporary art and framing studio at 1123 W 8th. They began May 27 operating the studio from their home and offer acrylic artworks, custom framing, and commercial design work. Both graduates of Bethel College, he 1972 and she 1971. He worked at Prairie View for three years as activities coordinator. Epp has taught art at Chisholm Middle School and Mrs. Epp at Santa Fe Middle School for three years.
Royston Inc buys Industrial Supply of Hutchinson while continuing current operations. Arland Richards remains general manager. Billing and invoicing will move to Royston’s Newton accounting department. Expansion plans target broader service offerings.
Hesston Division of Hesston Corp welcomes David Eshelman general accountant and John A. Frey inventory control analyst. Eshelman oversees fixed assets capital expenditures depreciation and budget reconciliation. Frey manages material flow and production material ordering. Both graduates from Kansas State system and Newton residents previously worked in Wichita.
Gale B. Williams of Williams Service and Marine Newton finished a two week factory service school at Johnson Outboards complex in Waukegan Illinois.
Roland and Richard Claassen will complete 25 years as petroleum product distributors with Phillips Petroleum Co. Tuesday. Phillips District Manager J. A. Crossland of Wichita will award a plaque and watch to each during a dinner in their honor.
