Energy bill stalls in Senate amid mixed reviews
House approved energy legislation without a gasoline tax hike and awaits Senate action likely by October before final passage to President Ford. Key figures include Rep. Al Ullman and Rep. Sam Gibbons with criticism from Rep. Barber Conable and a mixed response from Common Cause. The measure would adjust oil imports, replace tariffs, and offer tax incentives for home insulation, while a nontax approach on gas guzzlers is favored over car taxes. Police arrest reports follow, detailing two Wichita men charged in a marijuana seizure at the airport and subsequent arrests in Hutchinson with pounds of marijuana and pills seized.
