Recession Lifts Conventions Across Major Cities

The recession has boosted conventions for hotels, restaurants, and halls with attendance and spending near or above recent years. A 500-association ASAE survey shows 45 percent up, 37 percent flat, 18 percent down. Delegates spend 10 to 15 percent more. New York hosts about 825 meetings in 1974 and expects a similar total, with 3.2 million attendees spending $405.3 million.
