Harvey County population shows mixed 1977 changes
County figures show Harvey County total at 28 868, down 320 from 1976, with Newton dropping below 16 000 for the first time since 1974 at 15 955, a 92 decline. Walton leads town gains with 194, Burrton up 16 to 936, North Newton up 9 to 782, while several townships and Halstead Hesston Sedgwick also fall.

Fire causes identified in Beverly Hills Supper Club disaster
An Atlanta based three man team found the blaze began with a short circuit in a fountain pump power cord at the Beverly Hills Supper Club in Southgate Kentucky. The fire burned over an hour before discovery and killed at least 161 people.
