State Police seek a thin white man after an armed robbery at Cafe Roma south of Lewistown on Md 80 Sunday about 9 45 p m. The suspect brandished a single barrel shotgun and struck 75 year old owner Alice Dublin Miller in the kitchen, taking about 700 dollars from her dress pocket before fleeing.
County Commissioner Donald L. Lewis rejected the proposed 28 acre Etzler quarry landfill near Woodsboro citing small size water source risk and high traffic on Dublin Road. He favors a transfer station option to compact refuse for shipment to Reichs Ford landfill with the county owning and operating the facility for private haulers.
Jefferson holds its 200th birthday celebration in Middletown valley with a Festival Ball at Valley School, arts and crafts show, parades, antique auto show, war reenactment, jousting, church services, and fire works. Admission is free with a $1 parking fee.

Three Woodbine residents were among five Maryland road fatalities over the weekend. Gerald Moody 31 Barbara Moody 31 and Sybie Kennedy 34 of Woodbine died after Moody lost control on Main Street Damascus crashing into a tree and pole. Kennedy s husband was listed in stable condition.
Vigilant Hose Company Emmitsburg Crazens Truck Company and units from Fairfield and Fountaindale fought an early morning blaze at a two story remodeled farmhouse on Friends Creek Road near the state line. The 4 14 am fire burned two hours and gutted a second story bedroom the enclosed porch and part of the attic while other rooms suffered smoke and water damage. One unidentified man sleeping in a second floor room escaped unharmed and no injuries were reported.
US District Judge John J Sirica orders a separate Watergate cover up trial for Gordon Strachan while five defendants face the main case. Strachan seeks dismissal arguing tainted evidence and immunity deals. Brays says his client severed from the main trial.
President Ford weighs a federal gasoline tax raise of 10 to 20 cents a gallon as part of inflation fighting measures.
