Miss Annie Best heiress to social prominence and daughter of Col. C Livingston Best, former Fort Adams commandant, born to a distinguished Newport family. She spent much childhood in France and speaks fluent French and English, noted as a talented musician and renowned pianist.
A New York State hospital reports a year of progress in treating incipient pulmonary tuberculosis with around ten percent recoveries and many improvements among 145 discharged patients. Senator Heyburn of Idaho briefly improves from appendicitis after hospitalization. An advertising blurb promotes Newbro's Herpicide for preventing hair loss and promoting growth, claiming no oil content and easy application.

The twin tunnels linking New York and New Jersey were completed after 27 years with the south tunnel barrier breached by a hydraulic jack in the presence of Walter G. Oakman and William G. McAdoo. William Travers, 49, heir to a fortune and son of William KR Travers, died by his own hand in his Madison Avenue apartment. He lived apart from his wife since a separation three years ago and left letters citing business affairs and emergencies as possible causes. Travers, a former partner in Hugh Eddy’s banking house, was a member of the Knickerbocker and several clubs.
Police burst through a wall at 116 University Place to capture about 200 men in a pool room. Detectives signaled from hiding on a roof and entered through a window, taking patrons and operators as captives. Telephones and betting gear were seized as a crowd watched.
