John V. Nicodemus a long time Walkersville resident died suddenly Friday night at home. Born November 10 1880 he was 70. He led varied business and civic work including Glade Valley Milling Company Glade Valley Bakery Walkersville Water Company Mt Airy Milling Company Valley Supply Middletown and served as mayor and town commissioner. He was active in the Walkersville Methodist Church and Asbury Home for Aged and survived by siblings and nieces and nephews. The body will be at his home Sunday then at Walkersville Methodist Church Monday for services at 2 30 with interment in Mt Olivet. Flowers omitted.

Draft Call Up To 39,000 Marines In November
The Defense Department announced a total of 55,900 draftees will be called in November and December. Assistant Secretary Anna Rosenberg said Marine Corps expansion to three divisions is under way, increasing November inductions to 39,000 from 33,700. Of the two months total, 29,000 are for the Army and 10,000 for the Marines, with December inductions at 16,909, including 9,900 Marines and 7,000 Army. The two months bring total inductions since resumption to 434,680.

A Western Maryland driver was slightly injured and his car demolished after hitting the edge of a truck and sliding along railroad tracks near Ridgeville. Wicbur S. Benson, 45, of Oldtown, sustained a laceration to the right ear when his 1939 Oldsmobile struck the rear of a 1951 Chevrolet truck on Route 40 around 8:20 AM. The truck driver, Joseph C. Kelly, 33, of Big Spring, was identified by Trooper M. Whitney. Estimated damage to the truck was about 25 dollars. No charges were filed. Storm was his attorney. Mrs. Ella May Walters, 200 East Third Street, was divorced from George Edward Walters. she to pay costs.
