Poplar Island Rebuild Aims With Bay Channel Spoil
Maryland and federal agencies plan a 20 year effort to expand Poplar Island from four acres to about 1100 acres using 2 to 40 million cubic yards of dredged sand and silt. Sand berms and trees will create wetlands and nesting habitat for herons eagles and snowy egrets while funding remains unsettled.
