Jack Pumphrey announces The Jefferson School, an $8.5 million campus by Sheppard Pratt Health System in Frederick County. The facility will serve 56 children ages 5 to 18 with emotional and learning disabilities, offering clinical, residential, and day school services and aims to bring state residents home for care. It will generate about 100 local jobs, add roughly $225,000 yearly to tax revenues, and occupies 30 acres on a 210-acre site near Md 464 and Horine Road with surrounding farmland preserved. The school will coordinate with local educators and health professionals to provide a continuum of care and support for successful reintegration.

Let the people choose BOE members in Frederick County

Norman Quist argues for a public vote on whether the Frederick County Board of Education should be appointed or elected. He critiques a plan to have commissioners appoint four of seven members, warns of reduced checks and balances, and urges a county referendum to decide the process, with citizens controlling education policy and funding decisions. Quist notes the current system already exercises accountability and questions the motive of increasing political power. He emphasizes that education funding belongs to the people and calls for open discussion and local control.
