Eastern National Livestock Show draws exhibitors to Maryland
The 48th Eastern National Livestock Show runs Sept 29 to Oct 1 at the Maryland State Fairgrounds Timonium drawing cattle from Ohio Indiana Tennessee Alabama Georgia New York and other states. Open beef shows feedlot contests and a country dance fundraiser attract breeders and youth exhibitors with judging starting Friday morning and events continuing through Sunday with various sales and awards.

Allens honored at Maryland State Fair for dairy leadership
John and William Allen Jr of Jefferson received the Maryland Outstanding Senior Holstein Breeder Award at the Maryland State Fair. Their 1954 partnership built a herd of grade and registered cows and they have long supported dairy sales nationally and internationally. They earned a Progressive Genetics Award for five years and produced top artificial insemination bulls. William has held state and national dairy leadership roles and John helped establish Mid-East DHIA Lab and led Maryland Dary Herd Improvement. The two operate a family limited corporation with William and Margaret’s sons Michael and James.

Howard County 4 H Extension Agent Martin Hamilton received the first William A Curry Memorial Award at the Maryland State Fair. Becky Lynch of the Maryland Sheep Breeders Association and Carroll County Extension Director David Greene presented the honor recognizing Hamilton’s contributions to the 4 H livestock program in memory of Mr Curry.

Four Frederick County youths plus peers travel to Purdue West Lafayette for the National 4 H Engineering Science and Leadership Event after winning state contests in tractor driving small engines and aerospace.
