Thurmont Flooding Drains Basements After Water Surge
Thurmont and surrounding areas deal with extensive flooding as streets and basements fill with water. The Thurmont Guardian Hose Fire Company works through the night pumping out basements, with many more to go. Septic systems failed in outlying areas, backing into homes. In New York, Robert Bernard Considine, 68, Hearst columnist, author, and scriptwriter, died of a stroke at New York Medical Center University Hospital after being found in his Manhattan apartment. He wrote biographies of Babe Ruth and Jack Dempsey and several World War II and sports titles.
