Night watchman overpowered at GL Baking Company
A thief overpowered a night watchman at the GL Baking Company on South Carroll Street early today. The attacker tied the guard and forced him into a flour bin. The safe was robbed of an undisclosed sum after the 1 15 a m break in. The victim, 79 year old Harry Fraley of Hamilton Avenue, was assaulted during rounds.

Severe downpours saturated Thurmont and surrounding areas. U S 15 flooded at Resthaven Cemetery and a foot or more depth in both lanes for hundreds of feet. Thurmont sewer mains overflowed, basements flooded, and power was out in Catoctin Furnace area. Evacuations occurred along Water Street as Hunting Creek Lake overflowed. Drinking water remains chlorinated and deemed safe. Water spillage forced Moser Road bridge closure and threatened a Potomac Electric substation.
