An Adventure of Hancock's Men at Bristoe StationOctober 1863

A fortieth anniversary war story recounts Hancock's Old Guard during the Bristoe affair near Bristoe Station Virginia on October 14 1863. Meade and Warren counter Confederate forces under Jeb Stuart and Hill as they attempt a flanking move. Warren's division maneuvers to cross broad run and kettle run, delivers a sharp five minute convergence on the line, and captures 460 prisoners along with two battle flags and Pogue's battery. The piece ties the Bristoe fight to Gettysburg and notes shared regiments and leaders.

The Sunday School Quarterly Review on Israel and Saul

The lesson outlines Israel asking for a king and Samuel’s address to fear the Lord. Saul chosen, Samuel’s farewell, and David’s anointing are traced with golden texts. Abstinence from evil and temperance are urged, stressing inner heart over outward show and the need for rebirth.
