Restricting Coal Output Hits Anthracite Mines
Nearly all anthracite collieries in the region are ordered to reduce output. Three men employed by John A. Roebling's Sons Co were overcome by gas while digging a cesspool 36 feet deep in Newark. Two died before hospital arrival. a third is not expected to survive. A fourth man attempted descent, then the trio was rescued. Tenneville and Petty died en route. In Oil City, Pa, two men died and a third later succumbed after gases in a 30-foot well at Dey Chemical Works trapped rescuers and workers. Found a Treasure Ship in Jacksonville rumors confirmed via libel suit against the wrecking schooner Osteo. The Miami treasure reportedly dates to 1835, with ore from Mexican mines.
