Residents urged to curb sinkholes with new Walkersville rule
Walkersville officials propose an ordinance making property owners responsible for preventing sinkholes and repairing them to protect groundwater. If two sinkholes appear in a stormwater basin, owners must install a synthetic liner within two months or face fines and repair costs. The plan follows a county geophysical study showing depressions on Inspiration Avenue and nearby areas with susceptible soil and a cracked county sewer line.
