A promotional article touts Paine’s Celery Compound as a cure for female disorders and insomnia. It cites Mrs Long of Flint Michigan who suffered prolapse and rheumatism for years and reports relief after three bottles, including restored sleep and vaginal issues.
Washington dispatch reports General Chaffee cable indicating Captain John J. Pershing could not reach Mackin forts due to water and swamps. Pershing retreated to Camp Vicars, suggesting Moro positions are stronger than expected.
American League games include Athletic 7 over Baltimore 3 in the first, Athletic 5 over Baltimore in game two, and Washington 8 over Enston 4 while Cleveland and Detroit had rain delays. Chicago St. Louis and other National League clubs also listed with incomplete results.

President Roosevelt reached Washington from Indianapolis after a trolley accident caused leg abscess pain. He will stay in the temporary White House on Jackson Place until the wound heals and he can stand. Doctors attended him and rest was prescribed, with a full recovery expected in about ten days. A parade visit may occur two weeks hence.
In Pennsylvania’s anthracite belt, state troops patrol five of ten coal counties amid rising unrest. Sheriff Maxey sought Governor Stone’s help as crowds attacked workers returning home near Forest City. Major Field’s troops moved to Forest City while divisions from several regiments reinforce the region.
In Scranton Pa on September 25 the Thirteenth Regiment was called thrice to quell coal town unrest. Soldiers dispersed a crowd at Johnson No 2 colliery Priceburg blocking a coal train, arrested two strikers, and later faced attacks on non union workers. A large chase ensued as Hungarians fleeing Temple Company Sterrick Creek colliery drew out wide regional violence.
From South Africa comes a stark scene of repopulating a war ruined homestead. Burghers return with families to find blackened ruins where their dwellings stood, traces of the fighting and destruction that forced their departure.
Shenandoah Pa Sept 25 General Jotun replies to Sheriff Beddalls request to place Schuylkill county under martial law saying he did not consider it and will not. He calls it a governor matter and says such a move would usurp civil authority in every municipality and questions its constitutionality.
In Lebanon Pennsylvania on September 25, troops remain on duty as colored iron workers from the south operate at the American Tron and Steel Company mills without disturbance. Nearby St Lucia reported no tremors, while distant tremors were heard in St Vincent and other regions. A papal delegate in Rome is ordered to Washington to fill a vacant post.
A German merchant in Port of Spain testified that on August 20 the Venezuelan gunboat Restaurador hoisted the American flag to reach Ciudad Bolivar and opened fire, killing and injuring foreigners. Venezuela apologized. the ship’s commander saluted the flag. Minister Bowen demanded the apology and flag salute, which Venezuela promptly granted. The case remains under U.S. state and navy review.
Secretary Shaw discussed possible steps to ease money market strain by increasing government deposits with national banks to the full market value of bonds on file with the government. The plan would add about 19 million dollars to public funds on bank deposits. Treasury officials offered no definite knowledge of his intention as Shaw arrived in Washington.
James Pratt a Chester man was found guilty of brutal assault on aging Steamboat Hotel keeper Thomas Martina. Judge Johnson sentenced Pratt to 20 years in Eastern Penitentiary, with co-defendants Morris and Paxson receiving 19 and 20 years respectively.
