Milk price proposal for Washington area urged by associations
Maryland and Virginia milk producer groups urge a federal minimum price of 5.70 per hundredweight for Class 1 milk in the Washington area for July through March with a seasonal reduction to 5.10 in spring. The proposal, backed by the Maryland Cooperative Milk Producers and others, seeks government setting of the price, while observations note past price highs and a current weighted average return of 5.89. The plan covers parts of Maryland and Virginia but excludes Washington DC and several counties.
