G O P Caravan Tour Visits Frederick County Communities

The 1958 GOP caravan tours Frederick County on Wednesday visiting Creagerstown Thurmont Emmitsburg Foxville Wolfsville Myersville Middletown Burkittsville and Brunswick then gathers at Farmers Woods Petersville for a two hour open air picnic. District chairs guide each stop and Governor candidate James Devereux appears with other state hopefuls.

Barn Fire Destroys Farm Machinery North of Poolesville

A large barn on the William F. Bullis farm four miles north of Poolesville burned Monday afternoon damaging farm machinery tools and grain. About 19 trucks and 50 firefighters from Upper Montgomery County Hyattstown Rockville and Gaithersburg fought the blaze for nearly four hours. Estimated loss $15,000 the cause undetermined but possible backfire from a tractor. Nearby barn and farmhouse protected as crowds gathered to watch billowing smoke. Also reports Middletown Valley Grange held its September 11 meeting electing officers for the coming year.

Community Grange sets dates and honors in meeting

Cyrus S. McBride and Mrs Frank Darn er as juvenile officers led a Grange business session announcing the Community Show dates October 15 and 16 February 19 and a pancake supper plus a food stand at a Holstein sale on October 21. The Grange planned a bowling team starting September 19 and memorialized overseer Robert Holter with a donation to the National Grange Youth Leadership Training Fund. Winners were named in the cake contest Angel food cake first Faye Rice second Mrs John Barker third Mrs Austin Coblentz apple sauce cake first Mrs David J Young second Austin Stockman Jr third Mrs Earl Kepler Gloria Bidle won first in Juvenile Grange division. Booster Night invited Emmitsburg Grange guests and program by Frederick Memorial Hospital officials.
