Rural Montgomery Highway Master Plan Is Prepared
A preliminary master plan by the Upper Montgomery County Planning Commission outlines eight new dual lane arterials and circumferential routes around Gaithersburg and Rockville, with a major bypass of Damascus business center. The plan classifies roads, seeks right of way donations, and proposes a cross county arterial from River Road to Route 97 intersecting major routes. It predicts significant growth north of the route and near Rockville, Gaithersburg, and Olney, driven by sewer expansion and residential development, and considers bypasses around Dickerson, Beallsville, and Darnestown. The document also discusses traffic from the C O Canal parkway and routes 27, 24, 28, and 97 as dual or single lane arterials, plus a northeast bypass to connect to the National Pike. Public sale notice attached for a Frederick County parcel.
