Aldermen OK $500 for slum clearance study
The Board of Aldermen approved a $500 appropriation to the local Housing Authority for a slum clearance preliminary survey. It is to be repaid if USHA funds become available for a low rent housing unit here, with a decision expected in 30 to 60 days on a federal grant. The effort covers Frederick housing needs and includes a city survey of 12,000 residents, costing about $600 so far.

The Sudeten Germans, backed by Hitler, seek annexation of Czech lands. Hungarians and Poles in Czechoslovakia push for regional union with their mother states. If these minorities gain territory, Czechoslovakia risks dismemberment, leaving a small remaining state under German influence. About 3,250,000 Germans, 700,000 Hungarians, and 80,000 Poles live there.
