Manta Sept 20 The Republica de Nue claims an attempt to poison Aguinaldo last Monday night. A steward froze a spoonful of soup intended for Aguinaldo after a Spanish prisoner moved near the bowl, and the steward died. Eleven Franciscan friars allegedly conspired, and a crowd tried to lynch Spanish prisoners before Aguinaldo intervened.
Cleveland item reports engineer Rodert W. Doon confessing to setting fire at the Alabama Street Y M C A railway branch building. He fled the flames to obtain insurance money, claims no accomplice, and says he is not a member of the Y M C A or Christian. The structure was old and nearly destroyed.
